Question 1

How fast can I fix my credit score?

Accepted Answer

With the right moves, like a no-hard-pull secured card, credit builder loan, and rent reporting, most people see 40–80 points in 3–6 months. Disputing inaccurate items under the FCRA can produce jumps within 30–45 days. Going from 500 to 700+ typically takes 12–24 months with consistent action.

Question 2

How do I dispute items on my credit report?

Accepted Answer

Under FCRA §611, you have the legal right to dispute any inaccurate, outdated, or unverifiable information. Send a certified dispute letter to the credit bureau. They must investigate within 30 days. If they can't verify the item, they must delete it. CreditNav generates these letters for you automatically in seconds.

Question 3

What credit score do I need to buy a house?

Accepted Answer

FHA loans require a minimum 580 credit score with 3.5% down. Conventional loans typically require 620+. For the best mortgage rates, you want 740+. CreditNav gives you a personalized roadmap to reach your target score with specific steps based on your current credit profile.

Question 4

What is credit utilization and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

Credit utilization is the percentage of your total credit limit you're using. It's worth 30% of your FICO score. Keep every card below 10% for maximum points. Pay before the statement closing date, because that's when balances get reported to the bureaus, not the due date.

Question 5

How do authorized user tradelines work?

Accepted Answer

When someone adds you as an authorized user to their credit card, the entire history of that account, including age, limit, and payment history, appears on your credit report instantly. No hard pull. It's 100% legal under the FCRA and recognized by all major FICO scoring models. CreditNav's Tradeline Advisor recommends exactly which tradelines will have the biggest impact on your specific profile.

Question 6

What's the best credit card to get with no credit history?

Accepted Answer

For zero credit history: OpenSky Secured Visa (no credit check at all), Chime Credit Builder (no hard pull, free), or Kikoff Credit Account ($5/month, no hard pull). These report to all 3 bureaus and build a positive payment history immediately without requiring existing credit.

Question 7

Question 8

How do I remove a collection from my credit report?

Accepted Answer

You can dispute a collection under the FCRA if it's inaccurate, unverifiable, past the statute of limitations, or the result of identity theft. Send a debt validation letter first, then a dispute letter to the bureau. CreditNav generates these FCRA-compliant letters automatically based on your specific situation.
